Thank you all for your tremendous support to us. After our launch in Hong Kong, we had a lot of new users joining us. Please allow us to extend a warm welcome to everyone who has chosen us as their cloud computing provider.
As happy as we are about the recent launch, new challenges arose with the increase of customers in the Hong Kong region. We identified a technical problem in our router in Hong Kong. More specifically, the switching chip failed to function under heavy load, causing all the traffic to go through the router CPU, and leading to diminished bandwidth during peak time.
To solve this problem, we have decided to replace our router with a more capable model, after much deliberation and out of our concern of user experience, which is the thing we value the most in SalmonCloud. Alongside the change of router, we also plan to migrate our Hong Kong facility to a new data centre and change our network provider. This change in network provider will also offer stronger DDoS protection, lower network latency, and a better overall user experience.
We will try our best to expedite the preparation of router replacement and data centre migration. The downtime of each Hong Kong VPS server is estimated to be shorter than 20 mins, but the actual downtime may vary according to the disk size of your VPS. The details of the migration will be announced via email and Discord at a later date.
To ensure the experience of our customers with Hong Kong products, we have introduced a temporary, tight restriction to the stock of all the Hong Kong products. Furthermore, we plan to give free extensions to all Hong Kong VPS’s after the router problem is resolved. The exact length of free extension will depend on the actual duration and impact of the router problem and shall be communicated to you after the router is replaced.
We apologise for any inconvenience brought to you by this router problem and the data centre migration in the future. We expect this operation to greatly improve the service quality of our Hong Kong VPS. We hope you will bear with us, and we greatly appreciate your understanding.
